This podcast explores the background of planning by Union commanders in the summer of 1863 to control guerrilla activity on the Missouri/Kansas border by banishing families known to support them to areas south of Missouri. This provides a look at Orders No. 9 and 10 and argues that the sacking of Lawrence on Aug. 21, 1863 was an excuse to issue Orders No. 11.
